Design and implementation of acquisition and investment screens and the identification of companies and
   properties in the coal industry suitable as candidates for acquisition or investment—conducted throughout the
   major U.S. coal basins for a wide variety of clients, including both publicly traded and privately owned entities. These
   entities have ranged from those that were actively producing to potential first-time entrants and to passive

The initial evaluation of Island Creek Coal Company as a candidate for acquisition—conducted for Cyprus Coal
   Company.
The identification of and the initial evaluation of more than 20 coal operations and properties in Central Appalachia
   as potential candidates for acquisition—conducted for TECO Energy Company.
The initial evaluation of a number of producing coal operations and the development potential of a number of coal
   basins lying in the State of Coahuila, Mexico—conducted for a capital investment fund that is to remain
   confidential.
Final due diligence investigations involving resource estimation, Phase I environmental site assessments, and a
   permit compliance review of Kodiak Mining Company, LLC in Bibb and Shelby Counties, Alabama—conducted for
   Attila Resources Ltd.
Detailed due diligence investigations involving resource evaluation and estimation, assessments of coal quality,
   reviews of planned mine development, and a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment of a substantially greenfield
   project involving more than 75,000 acres of coal mining rights in Central Appalachia—conducted for a major
   investment entity that is to remain confidential.
Due diligence activities during the evaluation of the holdings of United Coal Company in Kentucky, Virginia, and
   West Virginia—conducted for a potential acquirer of the company that is to remain confidential.
The initial evaluation of the holdings of Black Diamond Mining Company in Floyd and Magoffin Counties, Kentucky
   conducted for a potential acquirer of the company that is to remain confidential
The detailed assessment of resource potential, including assessments of coal quality and mining-related issues of an
   operating property located in Central Appalachia—conducted for a potential acquirer of the company that is to
   remain confidential.
Development and management of a core drilling and analytic program, the evaluation of development and
   operational issues, and the preparation of a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment for a specialty coal property in
   southeast Kentucky—conducted for the acquirer of the property that is to remain confidential.
The management and implementation of a divestiture program for NP Mining Co., Inc., a privately held coal
   producer in Alabama. This engagement consisted of the preparation of a presentation document, development of
   a list of potential acquirers, initial contact with each, oversight of site visitations and data presentation, and
   assistance with negotiations. As a result, three candidates made proposals to acquire the company.
Assisting the financial advisors to ITT Corporation in the development of a divestiture strategy for its coal subsidiary
   Carbon Fuels Company, the preparation of an offering memorandum, the development of a list of potential
   acquirers, setting up a data room, and valuing the operations.
The updating of resource and mine maps and assistance in the development of an on-line electronic data room for
   holdings in southeast Kentucky being offered for acquisition—conducted for Manalapan Mining Company, Inc.
Assisting the financial advisors to Tacoa Minerals in the development of pro forma mine development plans, capital
   budgets, and mining costs for the company’s holdings in Alabama being offered for investment.
The geologic assessment and identification of areas with the potential for the greenfield development of proppant
   sand (“frac” sand) operations at various locations in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin—conducted for various clients
   that are to remain confidential.
The identification and initial evaluation of precious metals properties in the western U.S. suitable for acquisition
   conducted for a variety of corporate and individual clients that are to remain confidential.
Development, implementation, and management of a regional oil and gas acquisition program in Oklahoma and
   Texas—conducted for Gulf Energy Corporation.
Preliminary evaluation of a series of tungsten properties in Nevada—conducted for Nickel Plate Mining Company.
  Preliminary evaluation of a series of gold properties in the Province of Durango, Mexico—conducted for Finisterre
   Resources Corporation.
Initial investigation and geologic assessment of a number of underground and surface coal mines and a geologic
   assessment of the development potential in a number of basins under consideration for possible investment in the
   State of Coahuila, Mexico—conducted for Quintana Capital Corporation.
